A Three-Year Plan Created by the Planning Council on September 30, 2009
Implemented by the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church on October 12, 2009 The Vision of Westminster Presbyterian Church
Westminster Presbyterian Church has a rich history of mission, ministry, and worship. Some things have changed while others have remained the same. As a result, we recognize the need to “vision again” who we are, why we exist, and what we ought to be doing. In what follows, we have set forth what we believe to be the vision that must guide and direct Westminster Presbyterian Church for the next three years.
Our Mission Statement
As members of the family of God, Westminster Presbyterian Church is committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Ø We strive to love God and our neighbors with joy and respect.
Ø We will support and nurture our congregation and community through worship, prayer, stewardship, fellowship, learning together and living our faith. Initiatives
In Micah 6:8 we read, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Based on these words, we have set before ourselves three specific mission initiatives. We recognize these initiatives do not encompass our entire church’s ministry, but they do focus our attention on key developmental areas for the next three years. These initiatives are in the areas of missions, evangelism, and personal growth.
Ø To Seek Justice – Missions – We must reach out beyond our boundaries to help meet the needs of others, both spiritual and physical.
Ø To Love Kindness – Evangelism – We must touch the lives of others and share the Good news of Jesus Christ.
Ø To Walk Humbly with Your God – Personal Growth – We must encourage personal commitment to spiritual study and growth. PlanDo Strategies (First Year Goals)
To Do Justice – Missions
The Westminster Presbyterian Missions Committee will reach out to community organizations, offering and encouraging the use of our facilities.
Westminster Presbyterian Church will provide quarterly church-wide mission events/opportunities.
To Love Kindness – Evangelism
Westminster Presbyterian Church will identify the needs of our focus group and establish programs to meet those needs. Our focus group is defined as those ages 25-45, single or married, with children.
Westminster Presbyterian Church will develop a purposeful visitation program.
To Walk Humbly with Your God – Personal Growth
Westminster Presbyterian Church will encourage personal spiritual growth through an intentional educational campaign including such tools as a sermon series, speakers in worship, bulletin inserts, and Mockingbird Newsletter articles.
Westminster Presbyterian Church will provide opportunities for people to share their spiritual experiences with the congregation.
Westminster Presbyterian Church will host a special event which focuses on spiritual growth. Justification for the Three-year Plan
To Do Justice – Missions – Matthew 25:40 reads, “And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’” We currently have several opportunities for mission, however, the mission field is vast and the workers are few. We must therefore strive to expand our mission field beyond our walls.
To Love Kindness – Evangelism – Mark 16:15 reads, “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.’” Our mission statement proclaims we will share the Good News, thus we must be purposeful in reaching out to others beyond our walls.
To Walk Humbly with Your God – Personal Growth – 1 Peter 2:2 reads, “Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation.” We must be fed and grow in our faith so that we are equipped to reach out to others.
