Pack 356

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Shawn Chamblee is one of the leaders of the Calcasieu Boy Scouts of America. I have had the pleasure of working with her during my years of being Den Leader for Pack 83 / Den 4; as Aaron and several boys were raised up as Cub Scouts in our youth room.

Unfortunately, Pack 83, at Maplewood Lions Club, has closed the door and will no longer serve the community of Sulphur. Yet, when God closes a door, he opens another. Shawn contacted me earlier this summer about the possibility of Westminster chartering a new Cub Scout Pack.

After touring Westminster’s facilities, Shawn and the new Cub Master, Alan Doan, wholeheartedly agreed that Westminster Presbyterian Church is the perfect place to launch a new Pack. New Pack, you ask? Why can't they just move Pack 83 to the church? Well, as I learned, it doesn't work that way. The number actually belongs to the charter organization. So “Pack 83” was chartered by Maplewood Lions Club and stays with that organization. Shawn stated that they could release the Pack number, but it is a long and complicated process.

Alan Doan, the new Cub Master, recommended a new number - Pack 356. He stated that this number was inspired from a bible verse he memorized as a child:

Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. I like that.

So after some paperwork and a few meetings, Westminster Presbyterian Church is the Charter of Sulphur's newest Cub Scout Pack - 356! I cannot tell you how exciting this is to the community, the boys of Sulphur, and the church!  Pack and Den meetings will be held on Monday evenings. We held our first Pack Leader meeting earlier this month. There were enthusiastic adults with plenty of ideas and energy to make Pack 356 a viable presence for years to come!
